Terms of Use
Effective date: 15 August 2026
These Terms of Use govern access to and use of Fineliner’s apps, account services, integrations, and related website content.
1. About these Terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Fineliner apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, Fineliner account services, optional integrations, associated backend services and related website content (together, “Fineliner” or the “Service”).
Fineliner is developed and operated by Filipe Rigolon. In these Terms, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Filipe Rigolon as the developer and operator of Fineliner.
By downloading, accessing, creating an account for or using Fineliner, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms are intended to supplement any mandatory terms that apply through the Apple App Store, including Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement where applicable. Mandatory consumer rights are not excluded.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority required to enter into a binding contract where you live, to create an account or use Fineliner independently.
By using the Service, you represent that:
you have legal capacity to agree to these Terms;
you are not prohibited from using the Service under applicable law;
you will use Fineliner only for lawful purposes; and
any financial accounts, files or integrations you connect are yours or you are properly authorised to use them.
Fineliner does not currently claim to perform automated age verification. If you lack legal capacity, do not create an account or use subscription or financial-integration features.
3. What Fineliner does
Fineliner is a personal trading-journal and analysis tool. Depending on your device, plan and settings, it may allow you to:
record, import and organise investment-account activity;
calculate realised profit or loss and other portfolio information;
create journals, notebooks, trading plans and custom strategies;
attach notes, images, markup and voice notes;
review trades and generate reports;
retrieve supported broker or market data;
synchronise eligible information through iCloud;
send selected transaction fields to Notion;
create optional Calendar events and notifications;
use widgets and Live Activities; and
generate supported on-device AI summaries or responses.
Features may differ by platform, device capability, region, subscription status, third-party availability and app version.
4. Fineliner is not a broker or adviser
Fineliner:
is not a broker, exchange, bank, investment firm, tax adviser, accountant or law firm;
does not hold client money or financial assets;
does not execute, route, recommend or arrange trades;
does not tell you what to buy, sell or hold;
does not provide personalised financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice; and
does not guarantee any financial outcome.
All information, calculations, reports, summaries, reminders and AI-assisted outputs are provided for personal journalling, organisation and general informational purposes only.
Investing and trading involve risk, including loss of capital. Markets may be volatile, prices may move rapidly, assets may be illiquid and past performance does not indicate future results. You are solely responsible for your trading, investment, tax and reporting decisions. Obtain advice from appropriately qualified professionals where needed.
5. Accounts and authentication
Fineliner uses Supabase to provide email-based account registration and authentication. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to the email address you provide.
You agree to:
provide accurate account information;
maintain control of your email account and devices;
keep authentication codes, integration credentials and access tokens confidential;
notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access; and
not share, sell or transfer your Fineliner account.
You are responsible for activity performed through your account or authorised devices, except to the extent that applicable law provides otherwise.
Logging out clears the current Fineliner session from that device but does not automatically delete local or iCloud trading records.
6. Licence to use Fineliner
Subject to these Terms and the applicable Apple licence terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence to install and use Fineliner on Apple devices you own or control, solely for your own lawful use.
The licence does not transfer ownership of Fineliner or any intellectual-property rights to you.
Except where law expressly permits it, you must not:
copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense or commercially exploit Fineliner;
reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive source code;
bypass subscription, entitlement, security or access controls;
interfere with or disrupt the Service or its providers;
use automated systems to overload, scrape or probe the Service;
introduce malware or harmful code;
impersonate another person or misrepresent authority over an account;
use the Service to violate another person’s privacy, intellectual property or legal rights; or
use Fineliner for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive or misleading activity.
7. Your content and records
“You Content” means information you enter, import, create or attach in Fineliner, including transactions, portfolio entries, journals, plans, strategies, notes, images, audio and files.
You retain your rights in Your Content. You are responsible for:
ensuring that you have the right to use and process it;
checking that it is accurate and complete;
maintaining any records required by your broker, employer, tax authority or regulator;
keeping appropriate independent backups or exports; and
ensuring that its use does not infringe another person’s rights or applicable law.
You grant us only the limited rights reasonably necessary to process Your Content when you request a feature that requires processing, such as account services, broker synchronisation, market-data retrieval or another integration. Content held solely in your local storage or private iCloud database is handled through Apple’s storage services rather than licensed to us for unrelated use.
We do not claim ownership of Your Content and do not have permission to use it for advertising or to sell it.
8. Local storage, iCloud and device responsibility
Fineliner stores core records using Apple technologies including SwiftData. CloudKit synchronisation is enabled by default and may synchronise supported data through the private iCloud account associated with your Apple ID. You may disable CloudKit where the app provides that choice.
You acknowledge that:
synchronisation depends on Apple services, your Apple ID, available storage, connectivity and device settings;
changes or deletions may take time to propagate across devices and backups;
uninstalling the app, logging out or deleting your Fineliner account may not delete data stored locally or in iCloud;
deleting iCloud data may require separate action through the app or Apple’s settings; and
widgets and Live Activities may display selected information unless you enable available privacy controls.
You are responsible for protecting your devices, Apple ID and device backups. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted synchronisation or recovery of every record.
9. Imports, calculations and data accuracy
Fineliner may import CSV files, retrieve broker activity and calculate values such as positions, cost basis, currency conversion, realised profit or loss and performance summaries.
Results may be affected by:
missing, duplicate, delayed or malformed source records;
unsupported transaction types;
broker-specific formats or later format changes;
rounding, exchange-rate or timezone differences;
corporate actions, fees, taxes or adjustments not represented in the data;
FIFO or other calculation assumptions;
delayed or unavailable market data; and
software defects.
You must compare important figures with original broker statements, contract notes and other authoritative records. Fineliner reports and exports are not official brokerage, accounting or tax records.
10. Broker integrations
Fineliner may support manual CSV import, direct integrations and connected-broker synchronisation. Supported integrations can change without notice when providers change their APIs, permissions or commercial terms.
You authorise Fineliner to send the requests and process the financial-account information necessary to perform the synchronisation you initiate. You are responsible for complying with your broker’s terms.
Broker credentials for supported direct integrations are stored using Apple Keychain. You must keep those credentials secure and revoke them if a device or account is compromised.
Fineliner is not affiliated with Trading 212, Interactive Brokers or any other broker merely because an import or integration is available. Broker names and marks belong to their respective owners.
11. SnapTrade connections
SnapTrade provides an optional method of connecting supported financial institutions. Fineliner requests a read-only connection for retrieving account and transaction activity. The verified implementation does not request authority to place trades.
SnapTrade requests pass through a Fineliner backend hosted on Vercel and use your authenticated Fineliner session. Supporting records may be stored through Supabase, including a Fineliner user ID, SnapTrade user ID, connection state and encrypted SnapTrade user-secret material.
By enabling SnapTrade, you also agree to the applicable terms and privacy notices of SnapTrade and the connected financial institution. Their availability, institution coverage, data accuracy, security, retention and service levels are outside our direct control.
You can disconnect institutions or use available controls to delete the SnapTrade integration or identity. Deletion by Fineliner does not alter any records that a financial institution or third party must retain under its own obligations.
12. Market and currency information
Fineliner may use Marketstack, Frankfurter and supporting backend services to retrieve market prices, ticker information and currency rates.
Market information may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable or incorrect. It is not real-time execution data, an offer, a recommendation or a reliable sole basis for a financial decision. Verify prices and rates through an appropriate authoritative source before acting.
13. Notion integration
If you enable Notion synchronisation, Fineliner may send selected transaction fields to the Notion workspace and database you choose. These may include dates, actions, symbols, instrument names, quantities, prices, currencies, totals, realised results, foreign-exchange information and ISINs.
You are responsible for:
supplying and protecting a valid Notion credential;
choosing an appropriate destination database;
controlling access to the destination workspace;
checking the resulting pages or database records; and
complying with Notion’s terms and privacy requirements.
Notion is an independent service. We do not control its availability, data retention, permissions or processing. Disabling Fineliner’s integration does not automatically delete information already sent to Notion.
14. Calendar, notifications, Photos and microphone
Optional features may request Apple Calendar, notification, Photos, microphone or device-authentication permissions.
Calendar events, reminders and notifications are conveniences only. They may be delayed, suppressed or missed because of device state, permissions, timezones, operating-system behaviour or technical failure. Do not rely on Fineliner notifications as your only source for market deadlines, trading decisions, legal obligations or risk controls.
You are responsible for audio and images you attach and for obtaining any permission required to record or store information concerning another person.
15. On-device AI features
Supported AI features use Apple Foundation Models and are designed to operate on-device. They may create summaries, plan reviews or responses based on information supplied to the feature.
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, inconsistent or fabricated. It may omit important context and is not a prediction, rating, recommendation or buy, sell or hold instruction. You must independently verify every output before relying on it.
AI features do not replace professional financial, tax, legal, accounting, medical or psychological advice.
16. Free and Plus plans
Fineliner may offer Free and Plus functionality. Certain features, including some broker synchronisation, watched-folder imports, Notion synchronisation, widgets or advanced strategies, may require an active Plus entitlement.
Feature availability and plan boundaries may change as the Service develops. Where a change materially affects a paid subscription, any rights provided by applicable consumer law remain unaffected.
17. Subscriptions, trials and payments
Paid subscriptions are offered through Apple StoreKit and the App Store. The price, currency, tax, billing period, trial eligibility and introductory offer shown by Apple at the time of purchase control your transaction.
Unless Apple states otherwise:
subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled;
Apple charges the payment method associated with your Apple ID;
you can manage or cancel the subscription through your Apple account settings;
cancelling normally stops future renewal but does not retrospectively refund the current billing period;
trial eligibility is determined by Apple and may not be available to every user; and
refunds are handled by Apple under its policies and applicable law.
Fineliner receives purchase-verification and entitlement information but does not process or store your payment-card details. You can use Restore Purchases where available.
We do not promise any particular price in these Terms because storefront prices and taxes may vary by country and may change.
18. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Fineliner. By using the Service, you acknowledge that account, integration and device features require the processing described there.
You should review the Privacy Policy before creating an account or enabling analytics, broker connections or third-party integrations.
19. Third-party services and content
Fineliner depends on or may link to services operated by Apple, Supabase, PostHog, Vercel, SnapTrade, financial institutions, Marketstack, Frankfurter, Notion, Logo.dev and others.
Third-party services are governed by their own terms, licences and privacy notices. We do not control and are not responsible for their:
availability, performance or security;
content, prices or data accuracy;
account suspension or access decisions;
changes to APIs or service terms;
data retention or international processing; or
acts or omissions.
References to third-party names, logos or services do not imply sponsorship, partnership or endorsement unless expressly stated.
20. Intellectual property
Fineliner, including its software, interface, visual design, branding, original text and documentation, is owned by the developer or used under licence and is protected by applicable intellectual-property law.
Apple, broker, Notion, SnapTrade, Logo.dev and other third-party names, marks, content and technologies remain the property of their respective owners.
Feedback you voluntarily provide may be used to evaluate and improve Fineliner without payment or obligation to you, provided that this does not grant us ownership of Your Content or confidential information you clearly identify as such.
21. Service changes and availability
We may maintain, update, add, modify, suspend or discontinue features to improve the Service, address security or legal requirements, accommodate Apple or third-party changes or manage technical constraints.
We do not guarantee that:
every feature will remain available;
every broker, format, instrument or market will be supported;
the Service will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free;
defects will always be corrected immediately;
synchronisation will complete on every device; or
data from a third party will remain available.
Where practical, we may provide notice of material changes. Emergency, security or provider-driven changes may occur without advance notice.
22. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Fineliner at any time. You can cancel a subscription through Apple, disconnect integrations and use available account or data-deletion controls.
We may suspend or restrict access where reasonably necessary to:
address a security risk;
investigate suspected fraud, abuse or unlawful use;
protect users, providers or the Service;
comply with law or a valid authority request;
respond to a material breach of these Terms; or
manage discontinuation of the Service.
Where required by applicable law, we will provide appropriate notice and an opportunity to address the issue.
Deleting a Fineliner account does not automatically delete local or iCloud trading data. Cancelling a subscription does not itself delete your account or content. Disconnecting an integration does not necessarily delete information already held by the third party. Review and complete each relevant step separately.
Before ending use, export any transaction records you wish to retain. The verified CSV export covers transactions and should not be treated as a complete export of journals, images, audio, plans, strategies, settings, profile data or provider records.
23. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Fineliner is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
We do not warrant that the Service or any output will be complete, accurate, current, secure, uninterrupted, fit for a particular investment or reporting purpose or free from defects.
No oral or written statement creates a warranty that is not expressly set out in these Terms. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded for consumers.
24. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any mandatory consumer right.
Subject to that qualification, and to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, trading loss, investment loss, loss arising from market movement, loss of anticipated savings, business interruption, reputational loss or loss caused by reliance on inaccurate imports, calculations, reports, market data, notifications or AI output.
We are not responsible for loss caused by:
your trading or investment decisions;
inaccurate or incomplete source records;
broker, Apple, cloud or third-party service failures;
your failure to protect credentials, devices or accounts;
unauthorised use outside our reasonable control;
failure to maintain independent records or backups; or
events beyond our reasonable control.
Any further financial cap on liability should be assessed with reference to the operator’s legal status, subscription model and applicable consumer law.
25. Indemnity for misuse
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you are responsible for losses, claims or reasonable costs arising from your unlawful misuse of the Service, infringement of another person’s rights or material breach of these Terms.
This section does not require a consumer to indemnify us for our own breach, negligence or conduct where such an obligation would be unfair or unlawful.
26. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to Fineliner, third-party services, security requirements or applicable law. The revised version will show a new effective date.
If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide notice where required by law. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not accept a change, you should stop using the affected Service and cancel any future subscription renewal through Apple.
27. Governing law and disputes
These Terms do not currently specify an exclusive governing law or court because the operator’s final legal establishment and jurisdiction were not confirmed in the audited product materials.
Consumers retain any mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings in a forum that applicable law does not allow these Terms to remove.
Before beginning formal proceedings, please contact us so that we can try to resolve the issue informally, unless urgent relief or a statutory deadline requires otherwise.
28. Apple-specific terms
Where Fineliner is obtained through the Apple App Store:
these Terms are between you and the developer, not Apple;
Apple is not responsible for providing maintenance or support for Fineliner except as required by law;
Apple is not responsible for claims concerning the app except to the extent required under applicable App Store terms or law;
if Fineliner fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any, in accordance with its terms and applicable law;
you must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app; and
Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce applicable Apple-related provisions as third-party beneficiaries where Apple’s terms provide for this.
If these Terms conflict with Apple’s mandatory App Store terms or Standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, Apple’s mandatory terms control to the extent of the conflict.
29. General provisions
If a provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of that right.
You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent, except where applicable law provides otherwise. We may transfer the operation of Fineliner and these Terms as part of a genuine reorganisation, financing, sale or transfer of the Service, subject to applicable law and appropriate notice.
These Terms, the Privacy Policy and applicable Apple terms form the agreement governing your use of Fineliner, subject to mandatory law.
